Stamp Tags Program
Stamp Tags is
FREE. Send $17.99 for a copy on CD-ROM James Bryden |

You can trade stamps for STAMP TAGS (and for about anything else on my lists)
Generally, I will take trades for anything on my lists: $30 Scott or 1000 mixed precancels or 1000 different large stamps for $10 net in trade. To get the CD-Rom, just send 1799 different precancels or large stamps or 17.99 in mint US or $54 Scott.
If you send by catalog value, send no duplicates, no damaged, no CTO, nothing under .25 catalog value (unless part of a complete set). Please do not write on the stamps. I like pre-1968 foreign, used, also precancels, but I can use about anything. You can also catalog the stamps with any other real catalog, no Trucial States and the like. Please convert to US Dollars...
I'll take US full-gum POSTAGE at face value, but please go easy on the under 15 cent and over 5 dollar values.

What is a Stamp Tag?
A STAMP TAG is simply a text box (framed or unframed) used to 'write up' your stamp collection.
STAMP TAGS is a word-processor that lets you make lots
of text frames really fast.

Stamp Tags requires Windows 95 or higher. It works great with Windows XP. The program takes up less than 400 kb on your hard drive. When it is installed, the setup program will also install VB common files on your computer, if you do not already have them.
Stamp Tags Dot requires Microsoft © Word 97 or higher. Word 2007 works with Stamp Tags.dot, but it is a little wierd. I hope to fix it soon. The verdict is still out on Windows VISTA.
Stamp Tags is available by download for FREE. By mail, on either CD-Rom or floppy disk, price is $17.99, extra for foreign. Upgrades are free by download. By mail: James Bryden, PO Box 10-1106, Denver, Colo. 80250. To pay by credit card, just click on the Pay Pal icon, send $17.99 to Jim Bryden at StampTags.com

VERSIONS of STAMP TAGS
The newest version of STAMP TAGS mostly just corrects a couple minor bugs in version 5. The big change is Stamp Tags.dot, which lets you make tags using the Word program already on your computer.
STAMP TAGS version 5 let you easily create album pages. It also added advanced editing features that let you change your mind much easier. You can change the size of your tags as you work. You can import database files to make an entire album with little effort.
Version 4 made centering much easier. It added color and greatly simplified yet expanded menus.
Version 3 added frames to the text boxes, making the tags more appealing, and easier to separate.
With STAMP TAGS, you can create album pages, you can import from a database to immediately create an entire album. You can control each line of each tag, with different fonts, colors, etc.
Version 1 of STAMP TAGS was written for the Commodore 64/128, in about 1987. It was on a disk with Write Pages, a program for making album pages. Version 2 was a just slightly enhanced version, written for Windows 95, released in 1996. It did what I used the original version for: identifying precancels on clear stock pages, with the ability to put everything in columns.

Stamp Tags - Whats New
The current version of Stamp Tags is version 6. Minor variations of the program are issued as minor changes are made. As I developed Stamp Tags 5, I made my own Bureau Precancel album, based on the PSS catalog. It has spaces for 9367 stamps on 315 pages. A sample is at the bottom of this page (not printed very well though). The Bureaus database is included on the CD Rom, or you can download them under "Bureau Album."
Each tag that you save saves the text line by line. After long experimenting with Microsoft Word ©, and using Stamp Tags as an add-in, it is now a reality. Unfortunately, even with a fast computer, Word sometimes tends to be rather slow. Stamp Tags Dot is meant to handle just a few pages at a time. If you have ever worked with long documents in Word containing graphics, you will understand the limitations.
You are able to move tags around more easily, put each one on a different level.

Yes, there are always bugs in any program. Hopefully you will find that these don't greatly affect your pleasure. In fact, some bugs have turned out to be advantages. Here's what I am currently working on, and "workarounds" to correct the problems. These problems should no longer affect you.
If you are using Stamp Tags with a language other than English, that uses commas instead of decimals, you cannot change the size of the tags (or not easily). To get around this, go to Settings / Control Panel / Regional Settings and change to the American English style of decimals. This change has become moot, since you can use Word to put in stamp tags.
On the hard disk it works fine, but saving and loading tags on floppy disk did not work correctly. You had to copy both the .txt and the .txx files to or from your floppy. Use Windows Explorer, and right-click to copy and paste. It now works fine (v.6 or later).
Even though it looks like you have filled your tag, there may be an empty line at the bottom of the tag when it is printed. This is because, even with true-type fonts, the printed and screen versions are different sizes. Other commercial programs make the screen version appear smaller. On the edit screen, you can "insert a line" and "let it hang over the edge" on any tags you want to really fill. Many newer fonts now work perfectly fine with Stamp Tags, so load your newest fonts!
Word
2007 works with Stamp Tags.dot, but it is a little wierd. The verdict
is still out for Windows VISTA.
